Number 2
We are part biology and part spirit. To some degree, we are animals, exhibiting many of the same behaviors and traits found throughout the animal kingdom. These traits lead us to compete for food, territory, and mates. Such hard-wired tendencies were clearly beneficial in a world where survival was the prime directive.
Over the course of time, tribes extended to villages, villages to cities, and cities to nations. Modern social organizations offer security, identity, and shared resources. But in a global economy, where we are interconnected within hours by air, minutes by nuclear missile, and milliseconds via the Internet, attitudes and perceptions must evolve. We are more than just sophisticated animals vying selfishly for resources. Most people have a spiritual predilection that yearns to be developed. In every society on earth, men and women search for this connection. |
