Number 1
Rigid sectarian belief systems prescribe unbending modes of behavior and dress, and attempt to micro-manage followers in the guise of morality. Yet they often fail to address the key goals of spirituality -- compassion and cultivation of transcendent states. These values were almost certainly at the core of a given spiritual founder's philosophies and beliefs. How many wars and acts of aggression have been perpetrated throughout history, bolstered by a distorted notion of God's will? In reality, all religions tap into a common spiritual base. Sectarian notions of divine destiny run contrary to the stated teachings of almost all faiths.
